The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has granted Dansk Retursystem A/S the exclusive right to operate the Danish deposit and return system. The daily tasks and functions are regulated under the terms laid down in the relevant Statutory Orders.

Under the terms of the Statutory Order, Dansk Retursystem A/S is obliged to act in a supervisory capacity to ensure compliance with a number of regulations.
By law, we are required to carry out inspections of locations such as grocery stores, cafés and kiosks. We are also required to ensure compliance with a number of regulations such as:
Dansk Retursystem A/S is also responsible for inspecting grocery stores’ bottle-handling departments. In particular, we have to ensure that refillable bottles are sorted according to the guidelines in force.
Dansk Retursystem A/S does not have any formal powers, and can thus only identify mistakes and omissions. On the rare occasion that we fail to reach agreement with the store or importer and producer, we can forward cases to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.
Dansk Retursystem A/S is subject to the regulations laid down in the Statutory Order.
This means that our tasks and functions are supervised by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency on behalf of the Danish Ministry of the Environment. In practical terms, the Agency must approve our budgets, investments and fees as well as ensure that we comply with the rules laid down in the Statutory Order (only availabe in Danish).
