Legal framework

The Danish deposit and return system operates within the legal framework established by the “Statutory Order on Deposits and Collection etc. of Packaging for Beer and certain Soft Drinks” that came into force on 4 September 2002. The Order was put out for consultation, and its contents were notified to the EU. There have been several changes to the Order since its original publication.

Read the English version of the Statutory Order no. 713 from the Danish Ministry of the Environment. This has been changed in 2008 to the Statutory Order no. 634 (only in Danish).

New products

The Danish deposit and return system was extended on 16 March 2005. The system now includes beverages such as alcopops, energy drinks, mineral water, iced tea, ready-to-drink beverages and cider products. Additional amendments to the Statutory Order are currently unavailable in English.
